Mahias Ninth As Huertas Goes Top Five

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider Lucas Mahias finished Race Two at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in ninth place, as he continues to ride in place of the injured Can Öncü. The top Kawasaki rider in the Sunday race was Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki), in a strong fifth place.

The warm but slightly overcast track conditions at Misano reduced the track temperatures just a few degrees compared to Race One on Saturday and again the WorldSSP riders got to compete for the full 18-lap race duration.

At the start of the Sunday race Lucas was ninth on lap one, but then dropped to 13th place before fighting back to end up ninth. This was his best race finish since he took over the Kawasaki Puccetti Ninja ZX-6R at the previous round in Catalunya.

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) put in his best ride of the season with his fifth place in the second race and is now 13th overall, despite missing two rounds through injury.

Lucas Mahias, stated: “In this round our goal was to continue to adapt to the ZX-6R and to try to enter the top ten consistently. I think the balance is positive because today I finished ninth and I felt more comfortable on the bike. I hope that Öncü will be able to race again at Donington, but if that were not the case, I would be happy to remain a part of this team. I thank them for the excellent work done here at Misano.”

John McPhee (Vince64 by Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) was 19th on Sunday at Misano.

In the WorldSSP Challenge, forming a race-within-a-race for riders competing in the European rounds, Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo ME AIR Racing Kawasaki) was 12th in Race Two. He leads the WorldSSP Challenge ranking and is 18th in the overall WorldSSP series.

Luke Power (Motozoo ME AIR Racing Kawasaki) was 23rd in the final Misano race and Yuta Okaya (Prodina Kawasaki Racing) 27th.

In the championship standings, after four rounds and eight races, the injured rider Can Öncü is still the highest placed Kawasaki rider in eighth place, with Huertas 13th and McPhee 14th.

The sixth round of WorldSSP takes place at Donington Park in the UK, between June 30 and July 1-2.
